Programs & Teams

Our program starts with young kids as young as five and goes up to adult elite teams.  With both boys and girls participating, CYC often field the following teams: Men’s Elite (A-Team), Men’s Open (B-Team), Boys U18, Boys U15, Boys U13, Boys U11, Women’s Elite. Women’s and men’s teams from U18 and up travel to the Annual North American Chinese Basketball Association Invitational Tournament (NACBAIT) during the Memorial Day Weekend. The younger teams attend the Pre-NACBAIT  and the Philly Suns Tournament. The CYC teams are active in the county recreation leagues and have fared well in the Chinese community church leagues in Montgomery County.

Basketball Clinics

CYC organizes basketball clinics for children of all ages. We encourage parents to sign up their children to learn the skills and rules of basketball from our very own CYC basketball players and coaches. Our players are former collegiate players and coach local high school teams. We create a fun and enthusiastic environment where the kids can develop fundamental skills, compete and make new friends, and develop character.

History, Tradition, Pride

The tradition of CYC basketball reaches back to the 1950’s.  In the many decades since then, CYC has nurtured a tradition of top flight basketball teams and players.  From the DC high school championship game to the last cut of the University of Maryland men’s team to one of the first Chinese women to play at West Point, CYC takes pride in the accomplishment of its players at many levels of play.  Dozens of CYC hoopsters have gone on to play on high school teams from public schools to renowned private school programs like DeMatha.  About half of these CYC high-school ballers have gone on to play at the college level at places including: Catholic, Rutgers, MC, Elon, St. Mary’s, Columbia University, West Point Military Academy and more.

CYC have sent men and women basketball teams to compete in annual regional and national tournaments. These tournaments give our athletes opportunities to compete at a high level. By participating, the players develop the camaraderie among their teammates and also meet new friends from other cities. Some accomplishments from the past include in 1999 CYC Women’s China Doll won the first Women’s Open Championship at the NACBAIT in New Jersey and in 2002 CYC hosted the national tournament. In that year, CYC A was a Finalist against the Los Angeles Alpine.
